Huittinen is a lively town in the middle of the Finnish countryside
Divided by rivers, Huittinen is an attractive and lively city filled with food, culture and trade. There is Finnish saying “the crazy man from Huittinen eats more than he earns!”. A sizeable appetite is not a problem in Huittinen, because the town is among the largest food producers in Finland and the country’s “piggiest” municipality. So, stop by at the Kivikylän Hullulenkki butcher’s shop, shaped like a giant sausage, and be delighted by idyllic organic meat farms, boutiques offering locally produced delicacies and the berries and berry wines of Mattilan marjatila.

Huittinen also makes for a great shopping destination, with cozy boutiques filled with handicrafts and fashion. Life in Huittinen is easy-going and people have a sense of humour, reflected in the silly and funny Ympyrähullut statues in central Huittinen, along the Taikayöntie route. Right along Taikayöntie, you can also find the Huittinen Museum, showcasing local peasant culture and the life of former president Risto Ryti along with the magnificent St Catherine’s Church, made out of stone in the late Middle Ages. Several rivers cross in Huittinen, including the great Kokemäenjoki River, which flows southwest, the Loimijoki River, which runs through the city centre, and the Punkalaitumenjoki River, which follows the Taikayöntie route. Enjoy the stunning river scenery of Huittinen!
